News: Summer A Session TA Need for Environment 12 "Sustainability and the Environment"

The Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES) is seeking a qualified graduate student to serve as a Teaching Assistant for the Env12 course, "Sustainability and the Environment," for Summer Session A.

General Course Description:  Two lectures per week (TR 10:45-12:35); 3 discussion sections scheduled 1.5 hour each  (T 1:30-3:00, R 1-2:30, 3-4:30). 


Introduction to sustainability with an emphasis on the environmental component including Earth’s physical, chemical and biological processes as related to resource demands and management. Examination of the application of the scientific method in helping to understand and solve sustainability problems. Case studies illustrating how natural and social scientists work on environmental sustainability issues. Focus on global climate change, biodiversity, pollution, human health, water, and energy resources presented in the context of creating a sustainable human society that is environmentally sound, economically viable and socially just and equitable. 


Env12 Teaching Apprentice will:

• Attend lectures and assist the faculty in the lecture portion of the course (3 hrs. per week)

• Be responsible for conducting three discussion sections per week (1.5 hr. per section) with groups of approx. 25 students per section

• Review weekly readings and assignments

• Hold weekly office hours

• Participate in instructional meetings

• Assist in developing and grading course assignments

• Assist in developing course exams, monitoring exam sessions, and grading student exams


To qualify for this position, an applicant should have some teaching experience.  Preference will be given to candidates with educational and research experience related to the environment. Experience spanning more than one relevant discipline (e.g. economics and biology or engineering and political science) is a plus.
