Location

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative by the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. During IEW, UCLA will offer a series of events to celebrate international education and exchange, campus diversity, global perspectives and global citizenship on campus. In addition to the IEW featured events, the Dashew Center will also host a series of programs throughout the week. Please join us for these trainings and activities!

Monday:

Dinner Dialogue:  Global Citizenship (All are authorized!)

  • Monday, November 13, 6-8 pm | Bradley 300AB. RSVP at this link
  • Come join this interactive dinner discussion about the meaning of global citizenship and how or if you identify as a global citizen. Share a meal, discuss, and connect with others in UCLA's globally-oriented community. Dinner Dialogue brought to you by the Dashew Center, Intergroup Relations, and the Academic Affairs Commission.

Thursday:

International Ambassadors Meet-N-Greet

  • Thursday, November 16, 7-9 pm | Bradley AB.  RSVP at this link.
  • Come meet your International Student Ambassadors at our fall quarter meet-n-greet. We'll have food from around the world and a chance to have your voice heard or just socialize with students from over 40 countries! Drop in anytime between 7 PM - 9 PM.

Various Sessions Offered Throughout the Week:

Intercultural Communication Training

  • 50 to 90 minute sessions available at various times throughout the week.  Schedule and RSVP available at this link.
  • Come build skills for inclusive participation in UCLA’s global community! Whether you are studying abroad or engaging with the international community at UCLA, this training can help you communicate effectively and appropriately across culture.  Sessions for faculty, scholars, and TAs include content on engaging international students in the lecture hall or discussion group.
  • Specific sessions available for 1) students, 2) faculty, scholars, and TAs, and 3) staff.

Identity Wheel Around the World

  • 50 minute sessions available at various times throughout the week.  Schedule and RSVP available at this link.
  • Come to this 50 minute workshop to complete a personal and social identity wheel with an international twist! Explore the facets of your identity in different geographical and cultural contexts to learn more about yourself and the world.
  • Audience:  All are welcome.  Members of the international community and those with intercultural experience in the U.S. or abroad are especially encouraged to participate!

Pronouncing Chinese Names Training

  • 2 hour sessions available at various times throughout the week.  Schedule and RSVP available at this link.
  • Come build skills for inclusive participation in UCLA’s global community! Whether you plan to study abroad in China or engage with any of the thousands in the Chinese community at UCLA, the first step to global connection may be pronouncing Chinese names accurately.
  • All are welcome.  Faculty, staff, and TAs especially encouraged to participate.
