News: DACOR Bacon House Foundation’s Sounitza Fellowship for the Study of International Affairs - Deadline: January 4, 2017 (EXTENDED TO JANUARY 10, 2017)

December 19, 2016 - 9:45am

UCLA has once again been selected as one of 11 rotating schools to participate in the 2017-18 competition for the DACOR Bacon House Foundation’s Sounitza Fellowship for the Study of International Affairs.   This fellowship is offered to a UCLA student every three years through the generous bequest of Mr. Vadim Sounitza, a former UCLA student.

UCLA is able to nominate three students + one alternate.  The Graduate Division will select these finalists.

The campus deadline is January 4, 2017.  The final three nominees will be invited to an interview, usually in March, which will be with one of the DACOR members in our area.  There will be one awardee from UCLA.

  • Recipients must be U.S. citizens.
  • Awards are primarily made on the basis of academic excellence.
  • Awards are exclusively for tuition costs.
  • The fellowship is for a current first-year graduate student to help support his or her second year of study in AY 2017 -2018 toward a master’s degree.
  • The Foundation does not require that nominees seek a career in the Foreign Service of the United States.  But they must have an expressed interest in pursuing some aspect of international affairs such as a language, conflict resolution, international economics, or environmental science.

Application components and requirements are on the attached checklist.  More information about the fellowship can be found at
