News: 2017 Student Essay, Poetry, and Video Contest

April 21, 2017 - 12:45pm

Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) is a nonprofit organization that exists to educate and inspire character and equality through the virtue and valor of our World War II American veterans of Japanese ancestry. We strive to keep this important part of American history alive through teaching young adults who will constitute our nation's future.

They are sponsoring a Student Essay, Poetry, and Video Contest that is open to high school (grades 9-12) and college (undergraduate and graduate) students. Cash prizes will be awarded to a total of twelve winners:

  • $1,000 (each) to the top six winners
  • $200 (each) to the six second prize winners of each category
  • All winners will receive two complimentary tickets to attend our 16th Annual Evening of Aloha Gala Dinner on September 23rd at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles. At this gala dinner, the winners will be able to meet the Japanese American WWII veterans whose stories they researched!
