News: 2017-18 University of California Presidential Fellowship for UCLA Undocumented AB540 Graduate Students

The UCLA Graduate Division’s Office of Fellowships & Financial Services is now accepting applications for the 2017-18 University of California Presidential Fellowship for UCLA Undocumented AB540 Graduate Students.

 

The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) and the UCLA Graduate Division have partnered to offer funding for graduate students with undocumented AB540 status. At UCLA, preference will be given to non-DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) students. Applications for full funding will be accepted now through August 30, 2017 (applications for partial funding will be considered on a rolling basis, pending funding availability). Eligibility Criteria

  • Incoming or current UCLA master’s or doctoral student (in-absentia status okay)
  • Continuous undocumented AB540 status during period(s) of funding (preference given to non-DACA [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival] students)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 (other students are encouraged to apply once this minimum is met)
  • Continuous enrollment/registration in minimum of 8 units while funded

 

For Doctoral students, full funding will be based on a $25,000 stipend + standard tuition and fees. For Master’s students, full funding will be based on a $20,000 stipend + standard tuition and fees. If the student’s degree program has professional degree supplemental tuition, this funding will not cover that expense.

 

Student applicants should submit their complete dossier via a single PDF except for the letter of recommendation by noon, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 (for full funding consideration), to uclafellowship@grad.ucla.edu.  The file name should be “Last name, first name_UCOPAB540.” The letter of recommendation should also be submitted by the same deadline.

 

The application dossier will consist of the following documents as a single PDF (except the letter of recommendation) in the order listed:

  • Completed and signed UCOP AB540 Application (attached)
  • Personal statement of student’s goals, coursework completed, and research activities (two pages, double spaced, no less than 11 pt font and 1” margins)
  • Unofficial UCLA graduate transcript (My UCLA transcript okay; Degree Progress Reports not accepted)
  • Unofficial undergraduate/community college transcripts(s)
  • One letter of recommendation (signed and on office letterhead) that addresses student’s academic qualifications, community-service activities, and/or other relevant information    

 

The letter of recommendation should be emailed to uclafellowship@grad.ucla.edu or mailed or hand-delivered by the stated deadline to Fellowships & Financial Services in 1228 Murphy Hall. Please see the attached description for details.
